4 Easy Tips for Naming Your New Airbnb

Picking a title for your new Airbnb or vacation rental can be tricky. A lot rides on the name, as it’s usually the first thing a customer sees. A name can make or break your business—pick a bad name, and your Airbnb might just get lost in the sea of listings. But pick the right name, and you’ll attract plenty of potential guests.

This might seem like a daunting task, but we’re here with a few easy tips to help you pick the perfect name.

Choose something evocative

Think about your customer, and what he or she is looking for in an Airbnb like yours: a restful retreat? A beachside vacation? A woodsy, outdoorsy getaway? An urban adventure? Perhaps your property has a great view of the sunset, or is nestled in a town right next to a beautiful mountain. Pick a name that reminds guests of that feature—one that will evoke and excite.

Additionally, things can be evocative in different ways—words can evoke an image, but they can also evoke a mood or an atmosphere. Think about what feelings or emotions you might want guests to associate with your Airbnb property: comfort, elegance, romance, or relaxation are a few possibilities.

For example: “Seacrest Cottage - Minutes from secluded beach.” This title evokes a relaxing coastal vacation before the beach is even mentioned.

Keep it snappy

In this digital age, people take in enormous amounts of information every minute. A long, overly descriptive title might fly under the radar, or worse, bore a potential guest. A short, snappy property name, on the other hand, will catch a customer’s eye and seize their attention and interest. A few single-syllable words, or two words with a few syllables, work best. Be careful, however—a short, generic title will not help boost your property’s popularity. Aim for something compact but original.

For example: Rather than a long title that aims to advertise every feature of the house, such as “Cozy, secluded four person cabin in the woods with renovated kitchen and fireplace, pets allowed!,” try something more concise and memorable, such as “Pine Palace - Modern Luxury in Rural VT.”

Highlight your Airbnb’s unique features

What features of your short-term rental make it unique? You may have a tiny house, or a Victorian mansion, a guesthouse or a bungalow, a treehouse or a cottage. Does your property have a widow’s walk, a turret, or a balcony with a view? Perhaps a pool, or access to a beach. Hone in on these special elements when picking a name, which will certainly stand out to guests.

For example: “Sandy Dunes - Cottage with Private Beach” or “Harvest Moon House - Renovated Barn on 100 Acre Farm” highlight the unique qualities of each property.

Accentuate regional or cultural details

Find regional or culturally significant nearby landmarks—such as a mountain range, a river, a historic village, or a local artist or writer—to inspire your property’s name. These local details will invite guests into your world, and make them feel like honored locals. Specific details like these will give guests a sense of the geographic, historical, and cultural significance of the area and your property—it will feel like a real vacation!

For example: “Lighthouse Landing” or “Great Rock Resort” suggest nearby landmarks that distinguish the house and provide context for its surroundings.

Of course, guests’ experience of the property is ultimately most important, but a good title can help make these experiences memorable. Above all, it is important to pick a name for your property that will catch the interest of potential guests—whether this is through an evocative, thematic title or through reference to a historic landmark.

A memorable trip begins with a virtual journey that involves words and images. We hope these quick tips helped you get started on picking the perfect name. But if you’re still stuck, check out AirHost Academy’s handy Airbnb Title Generator Tool!
